Pandemic Perils and Progress for the Probate Practitioner: Remote Notarization (Update) and Virtual Probate

In this extremely timely CLE program, panelists will address recent developments to the remote notarization law in Pennsylvania and recent procedures implemented with respect to remote probate in Philadelphia County.

Following the successful April 9th webcast on Executing Estate Planning Documents in a Pandemic, the General Assembly passed S.B. 841, and Governor Wolf signed the law now known as Act 15 of 2020, which temporarily provides for the remote notarization of documents.  The panel will examine the limited application of Act 15 of 2020 to estate planning documents, as well as S.B. 1097, pending in the General Assembly, which would authorize remote notarization on a permanent basis.
In addition, the Register of Wills of Philadelphia County will discuss and answer questions about the temporary procedure currently available to allow for remote probate during the public health crisis.

Come prepared with your questions. The program will include a question and answer period to provide the guidance needed to properly advocate for your clients.
